Our work with other museums
The Science Museum has over 300,000 objects in its care, with particular strengths in the history of western science, technology and medicine since 1700. We regularly loan objects from our collection to museums in the UK and internationally, enabling more people to access these unique collections.
As well as the loan itself, our staff also provide specialist subject knowledge expertise, advice and guidance about a number of activities, including collections care and management, interpretation, methods of display and presentation.

Sharing our skills and knowledge
Our staff hold a wealth of knowledge and expertise not just around the collections, but also in exhibitions, conservation, programming, learning etc. We seek to share our expertise and learn from others through attending conferences, joining specialist groups, publications and responding to queries around the following:

We are happy to share our experience of exhibition and gallery planning, design and delivery. This includes commissioning new work from artists, access for people with disabilities, interpretation, interactive development, new media, specification, design, build, installation and evaluation.

The Science Museum produces award winning online learning resources which are available for any museums or schools to use.
The Science Museum Learning team has a huge amount of experience in understanding audiences and making science learning fun. The team has put together a resource toolkit for museums and science centres with expert tips and practical advice.

We regularly share curatorial knowledge and understanding with museum colleagues as well as hosting on-site visits. A number of our staff act as curatorial advisers, providing professional curatorial advice in support of the Museum Accreditation Scheme.
