Launchpad Outreach Project

A 3-year outreach programme to bring the experiences and ethos of the Science Museum's innovative, interactive Launchpad gallery into the classroom.

Launchpad

From 2007-10, the team will be travelling to selected schools to deliver a series of exciting shows and workshops to Year 7 students (and S1 students in Scotland). They plan to reach over 8500 students and 66 teachers.

The Danger! High Voltage! Show

During this exciting 45-minute show about electricity and magnetism, students will have the opportunity to witness high voltage lightning flashes and conduct electricity through the palms of their hands.

Science Communications Skills
An interactive session in which students will develop their communication skills using specialised demonstrations inspired by the Launchpad gallery itself.

The Launchbox Challenge
During this hands-on session inspired by the Launchpad exhibit On the Move, students design and create their own chain reaction contraptions.

The Final Event

The Outreach team will return to each school to celebrate the students' achievements. The students present their contraption and perform the science demonstration.

Teachers’ course

A two-day training course for teachers participating in the Launchpad Outreach project. Teachers will be introduced to each aspect of the project, including an online support resource, to enable them to get the most out of the project and the new Launchpad gallery.
