Website accessibility statement

We are committed to providing a website that is accessible and easy for everyone to use.

This page has links to other websites with advice to help you to use our site. It also describes the work we have done to make our website accessible, how we will improve on this and how we will keep it accessible in future.

Help using our website

The BBC has guidance on how you can change your computer settings to make websites like ours easier to use:

Our website has been built to work with all major screen reader software. If you experience problems, please let us know by email: info@sciencemuseum.ac.uk

Accessibility standards and compliance

Web accessibility standards help us to make our site easy to use.

We aim to meet the highest accessibility standards which, in practice, means we aim for what is known as AA accessibility. Where we don’t currently meet these standards, we try to prioritise those that will help our visitors the most.

When updating our website, commissioning new websites and keeping our site accessible, we aim to follow the guidelines set out in British Standard BS 8878.

Making our site more accessible in future

We are in the process of updating our website with a new design which makes it easy to use whichever device you are using - mobile, tablet, desktop computer etc.

We have already updated our Homepage and Visit Us sections and are now working on making them even easier to use. Other parts of our site, which still use our old design, may be harder to use but we are working to bring them up-to-date.

Other things we are working on include providing captions and transcripts for all our videos and audios.

There are also areas of our site which, despite our efforts, we have not been able to make accessible for everyone, e.g. it may not be possible to use our games if you are blind. And we are working on a programme of regular tests to make sure our website stays easy for everyone to use.
